AB - The scale comprises 23
items that serve to record self-controls. The concept of self-control was
developed within the framework of the General Theory of Crime (GTOC;
Gottfredson and Hirschi 1990) and control theories. The GTOC represents a
utilitarian theory of action in criminology, which assumes that deviant behaviour
arises under consideration of costs and benefits and thus corresponds to
rational action. With regard to control theories, Gottfredson and Hirschi
(1990) assume that a person can be attributed self-control as a personality
trait. It is assumed that people with a low level of self-control tend to
perform a variety of different forms of deviant behavior, provided appropriate
opportunities present themselves.
