AB - The Penn State Worry
Questionnaire (PSWQ; Meyer et al. 1990), in accordance with the Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association (DSM III; APA 1987),
is intended to record excessive, unrealistic worry as a central cognitive accompanying
syndrome of a generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). In DSM IV (1994), this
explication was extended so that excessive worry must also be experienced as
uncontrollable. Accordingly, the PSWQ Items should also operationalize this
facet of worry. Stöber (1995) developed and tested a German version of PSWQ for
the first time. Like the English original, it contains eleven items that
express a care trend and five items that negate it or inquire about its
controllability.
