The NFC-K measures the expression of the Need for Cognition (NFC) construct with four items that reflect two facets of the construct ("engagement" and "joy"). The capture of the construct NFC plays an important role in larger surveys of different content areas, especially as a control variable. The NFC short scale enables an objective, reliable and valid measurement and is economically applicable. The scale can be used for people from adolescence onwards, as the metacognitive skills necessary for assessment are developed during adolescence (Oerter & Dreher, 2002).
