AB - %3Cp%3EThe Internal%26ndash%3BExternal Locus of Control Short Scale%26ndash%3B4 %28IE-4%29 measures two dimensions of the personality trait locus of control with two items each. IE-4 was originally developed and validated in German and later translated into English. In the present study%2C we assessed the psychometric properties %28i.e.%2C objectivity%2C reliability%2C validity%29 of the English-language IE-4%2C compared these psychometric properties with those of the German-language source version%2C and tested measurement invariance across both language versions. Using heterogeneous quota samples from the UK and Germany%2C we find that the English-language adaptation has satisfactory reliability and plausible correlations with 11 external variables %28e.g.%2C general self-efficacy%2C self-esteem%2C impulsive behavior%2C Emotional Stability%29%2C which are comparable with those of the German-language source version. Moreover%2C metric measurement invariance of the scale holds when comparing the UK and Germany%2C implying the comparability of correlations based on the latent factors across the two nations. As an ultra-short scale %28completion time %26lt%3B%26nbsp%3B30%26nbsp%3Bs%29%2C IE-4 lends itself particularly to the assessment of locus of control in survey contexts in which assessment time or questionnaire space are limited. It can be applied in a variety of research disciplines%2C such as psychology%2C sociology%2C or economics.%3C%2Fp%3E
