AB - Originally introduced by
Bandura (1977), self-efficacy is the confidence in one's own capability to
successfully overcome challenges and exert actions to reach intended goals.
Hereby, it is important to distinguish between general and context-specific
self-efficacy. Whereas the former is the general confidence in one's own capability,
the latter one is context-specific and therefore especially applicable for
context-specific prediction (cf. predictor-criterion-symmetry, Brunswik, 1955). The scale - encompassing three subscales- presented here assesses
self-efficacy among freshmen (study entrance self-efficacy). It does not
only show good reliability coefficients (Cronbachs Alpha > .88; McDonalds
Omega = .90; Raykovs Rho > .64) but also proofs to be valid
when it comes to construct and criterion validation. Furthermore, reference
data from N = 1842 freshmen are available.
